- Club Coach
Christmas Eve 2002, I stood at the bar of the local pub having finished work for that year and knocking back a few beers with my work pals – that is where my Triathlon ‘Journey’ began!
Having enjoyed a few too many beers, it was getting late and the bar was soon to close – one of my work pals asked “have you heard of this triathlon lark?” this was the same person who the year before, stood in the same spot had asked me whether I had heard of the Tough Guy event (one of the original mud and obstacle runs – a crazy event organised by a true eccentric in Wolverhampton). I should have learned from my earlier experience to leave him stood at the bar, but no, I listened in and a few months later I was stood at the side of the pool in Stratford waiting to start my first sprint distance triathlon.
Since that race, I have competed in over 100 races at Sprint, Olympic/Standard, ½ Iron and Full Iron Distance. I may not be the fastest, but I love the sport and have experienced both the highs and lows of racing!
Cycling is my preferred discipline, but I do truly love all three. I have somewhat of a reputation for extending training sessions beyond the intended time (never trust me if I tell you there is just a few miles to go!) and I love hills (again, never trust me when I tell you there is just a couple of hills left!).
Always happy to offer a helping hand or word of advice where I can.
