Tell us little about yourself?

I work at Great Barr Golf Club as a Head Greenkeeper and I have worked in the golf industry since I left school 24 years ago. I live in Tamworth with my wife Lindsey, our 7 year old son Ben and 3 cats (Eric, Ernie and Flossy).

How did you get into Triathlon?

I first got involved in triathlon back in 2008 helping out with kids Triathlons. After watching lots of 8-9 year old kids completing these fun events I decided to have a go myself and entered Lichfield sprint tri, I could barely swim and hadn’t really ridden a bike since I was a teenager but I got round and was hooked.

What is it you love about Triathlon?

I really enjoy the challenge of Triathlons, the fact that it is not just a single event but three separate disciplines and also found the camaraderie among other triathletes is awesome;  everyone is always encouraging and supporting each other.

Is there a race you would recommend?

I have done many events over the last 10 years and have enjoyed aspects of all of them but my favourites are probably the Always Aim High events (Slateman, Snowman and Sandman) they are quite challenging races but are always very well organised , they always have a good atmosphere and the Expo always has good cake!

Have you suffered a mishap or funny situation leading up to or during a race?

I am not great at counting and 3 years in a row swam 18 lengths instead of 16 at Lichfield sprint….. a fact many fellow Titans won’t let me forget!

Do you have a favourite piece of race kit?

Haven’ really got a favourite piece of race kit but I have quite an attachment to my TT bike, we have done a lot of races together. I am also a bit superstitious about a Tri top I was given and have worn it in nearly every race in the last 3 years.

What is your personal sporting highlight or achievement?

Racing for GB in Kitzbuhel in 2017 in The European Championships.

Do you have a dream or bucket list event?

I know it is not a triathlon but I have wanted to do the Rat Race Coast to Coast for a few years, I was lucky enough to be able to enter to race for this year’s race in September .I quite fancy doing a 70.3 abroad too.

How many finishers medals have you got?

Lots! And a few mugs and t-shirts. I think I have completed nearly 50 events at various distances.

When not training or competing what other hobbies / interests do you have?

I love spending time with my family, either at home or on holidays and I really enjoy reading books, to be honest we don’t get a lot of spare time outside of Triathlon.

Which sportsperson do you admire and why?

A difficult question to answer, I have read James Cracknells book “Touching Distance” a few times and think his achievements after his near fatal Brain injury are amazing.

I have also drawn a lot of inspiration from Forrest Gump…..
